Pacific Paradise's Numeracy Success Story

23/04/2015
Our primary goal as a Numeracy Success School is to ensure that each and every student achieves improved outcomes in the area of Mathematics, particularly in their understanding and application of number and place value concepts, operations, computation and patterns and algebra.
Students from Years 1-6 were assessed at the beginning and at the end of Term 1 using diagnostic assessment tasks. These assessments allowed us to analyse student results and to tailor our teaching to meet identified student strengths and weaknesses.
The fantastic news for all students is that, through the focussed efforts of teaching teams working together to improve student mathematics outcomes, we have achieved almost 100% success in our goal to ensure improved outcomes for ALL students.  We have assessed, measured and graphed student numeracy achievement.  End-of-term graphs showing student improvement data clearly demonstrate that our numeracy assessment, teaching and intervention strategies are working.
I commend the work of our Numeracy Coach, Maggie Wadeson and congratulate our class teachers for their diligence and professionalism in taking on this initiative and employing best-practice strategies to improve maths outcomes for our students.
