Absences and Attendance

14/11/2014
If your child is absent from school please contact the school on 5457 2360 with your child’s name, class and reason for the absence.
All parents of a child of compulsory school age are required by law to ensure their child attends school on every school day, unless the parent has a reasonable excuse for the absence. As a result, parents are required to notify the school of the reason for each absence. It is insufficient just to advise the school that your child was absent. Ac-ceptable reasons include sickness, dental or medical treatment, etc. Parents are encouraged to plan holidays for students during gazetted school holidays and student free days.
Unfortunately undertaking a leisure activity such as shopping, visiting friends and relatives, fishing or camping, tak-ing the day off because it is the child’s birthday is not a reasonable explanation for an absence from school. The school is required to follow up all unexplained absences. If we have not received a valid reason for an absence; a letter will be sent home with your child requesting you to explain the reason for the absence within three days.
